What Makes Garcinia Cambogia so Popular?Posted by Tim Cleland
Garcinia Cambogia is a fruit that looks like a small pumpkin and is often used in Indian curries. Recently it’s grabbed headlines for its weight loss potential.
Study suggests amazing weight loss
The active ingredient, hydroxycitric acid (HCA), comes from the rind and has been shown in clinical studies to be effective for weight management. In a randomized placebo-controlled, single-blind, cross-over trial, 90 subjects were given either a placebo or 1,555 mg of garcinia cambogia extract (60% HCA), three times daily for eight weeks. Both groups combined this with diet and exercise.
Less appetite, cholesterol benefits
Researchers measured body weight, body mass index (BMI), serotonin levels and appetite. At the end of the trial, subjects in the garcinia group saw a reduction of BMI by 5.4% and an average weight loss of 10.8 pounds. The placebo group averaged just 3.3 pounds.
In addition, the garcinia group felt more satisfied upon eating, resulting in a 15% reduction in calorie intake, most likely from higher levels of serotonin. The same study showed the garcinia group to experience healthier cholesterol levels as well.1
Garcinia is often paired with other weight loss nutrients for even more effectiveness.
