Native to India, patchouly is a fragrant, bushy plant that bears white flowers. The name patchouly comes from two Hindustan words, "patch" (green) and "ilia" (leaf). During the 60s, patchouly became popular with the counterculture for its ability to create a harmonious environment. Today it has a variety of external uses.
For Aromatherapy - Traditionally a sachet made of patchouli was placed in the linen closet to maintain a fresh smell and discourage unwanted insects. Used in potpourri or a room spray, the scent lifts your mood, energizes, and eases anxiety. Blends well with many oils including rose geranium and lavender.
External use only
