Over time, high sugar levels negatively affect the heart, eyes, kidneys, nerves, and other parts of the body. While Type I (known as juvenile diabetes) is a genetic problem that prevents the pancreas from producing insulin, the more common Type II diabetes can occur to anyone at any time in their life.
