Staying Socially Connected

As we practice social distancing it can be a challenge to maintain our wellbeing and to stay connected to friends and family. Here are some tips to help.

Tackle tasks you’ve been putting off. Paint a room or clean out drawers and closets. Toss or box up items to donate.

Reach out to someone you haven’t heard from to rekindle your friendship.

Take an online course. With time on your hands, brush up on your skills or explore topics of interest.

Stream and binge watch. Catch up on all the latest shows you haven’t had time to see. Just make sure you balance it with some physical activity too!

Keep a routine. Whether working from home or not at all, keeping your regular schedule adds structure and normalcy to your day.

Do an online workout. There are thousands of fitness routines on YouTube for varying ages and abilities.

Get outside. It’s still ok to go outside as long as you maintain your social distance. Let nature keep you relaxed and grounded.

Read a book. If you’re like lots of people, you’ve got books in the house you never finished. Now’s the time.

Stay healthy. Eat well-balanced meals, get plenty of rest, and be sure to keep up with your daily vitamins and supplements.

Throughout this outbreak, keep in mind that by staying home you’re helping to stop the spread and save lives. Use the free time and hang in there!

During the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, we’re asking you to, where possible, avoid contact with people who don’t live in your household. This will prevent the spread of germs, help stop people from getting sick and it will save lives. We expect this to be hard – it’s hard for all of us. But it’s the right thing to do at this time.

We also know that feeling socially isolated can impact your mental wellbeing. It can make people feel sad, anxious, lonely and depressed. We want to make sure that during this time, you have ways to stay connected to your family, friends and community, even if you can’t see them in person.

Below are some suggestions for different ways Queenslanders can stick together during this time, even when they’re far apart. We want to hear your suggestions, too. Head on over to our Facebook page or Instagram page and share how you are planning to stay connected during the pandemic.
