Cold Shower Benefits…A Jolt of Good Health

Ahhh…Nothing like a hot shower to start the day off right. At least that’s what most of us think anyway. But bathing in hot water is a relatively new luxury since for most of human history, we bathed in whatever water we could find, usually cold.

Although many cultures and religions incorporate cold water dousing into their rituals, cold water showers are becoming mainstream and here’s why.

How to start

If you’re thinking a 10-minute, ice-cold shower, think again. A cold shower is anything below 70°, so not intolerable. First take a warm shower, then for the last 30 seconds, or up to two minutes, switch to cold. Some individuals work their way up to five minutes, but shorter durations can be just as effective.

A cold shower in the morning could give you the healthy jolt you need. Try it and see how much more alive you’ll feel. You may never need coffee again!

Individuals with weakened immune systems or serious heart conditions should first ask their healthcare professional before trying.
